COVID-19? The #1 topic on every pet owners mind: can my dog contract the novel coronavirus aka COVID-19? At this point, there are no known cases.
Keep in mind, pets can carry the virus on their fur, leashes or apparatus. It would be prudent to bathe your dog and wipe down their equipment more frequently. This is especially important if your dog has been in social situations. The latest guidance about pets and COVID-19 can be found by clicking on the Center for Disease Control link.
At Off Leash K9 Training San Luis Obispo we implemented additional steps to our already stringent health policies to ensure the safety of your dogs, the trainers and you. Our top priority has always been safety and training is our second priority.
During this time of uncertainty, maintain good hygiene for you and your pets. Keep them mentally and physically stimulated by frequent walks and play sessions. Remain calm as dogs and puppies feed off their owners energy.
We have received several calls over the past week as dog owners are now spending more time with their pets. Maintain consistency, create good structure and enjoy the additional time with your pets. Things are in upheaval around the world, take comfort in your pet during this time. If you would like more information, check out our post on Happy, Healthy and Energetic Dogs.
Social distancing does not need to mean social isolation. Walk your dog, schedule FaceTime dates with your dog owner friends or use another form of video conferencing. Stay connected via safe, smart ways with other pet owners. From all of us at Off Leash K9 Training San Luis Obispo, we are thinking about you, your pets and your family. And a massive THANK YOU to all of the first responders who are keeping us safe. You are our heroes.
